  1. Have a pot-luck picnic!! Great way to get variety of food without spending much $$ on it! Guarentee to have something for everyone!!

  2. Here’s a fun one for grownups- make your own weighted hoop. For about $17 you can make a weighted hoop out of a 10′ pvc pipe and a $1 connector, some water and some duct tape. Fun times hula hoopin!

  3. Tip: create your own “waterpark” or splash pad.

Buy a couple of cheaper sprinklers from Canadian Tire or Walmart and a kiddie pool. Place the objects around your yard and let the kids run wild ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Go see the free Ballet in the Park and Movies in the Park at the Lyric Theatre in Assiniboine Park during the summer.

  5. BBQ in the park with hot dogs and hamburgers. Grow your own veggies or shop farmers markerts or swap with a neighbour. Watch out for hidden sales… I stocked up on hamburgers from Safeway. They were on 14.99 on sale for 8,99 and then a 50% sticker in them which made them 4.50 (pack of 25)

  6. Be sure to take in the Lyric Theatre in July and August. There are free musical shows on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sunday evenings from 7 to 9 pm for whole family. FREE!

  7. In August, at the lyric Theatre at Assiniboine Park, they have two movies on a Friday night. Usually shows earlier are kid shows and they leave around 9:00 pm. Bring a chair or blanket and your treats from home.

  8. I was going to say the movies at Assiniboine Park… Looks like no one has mentioned the free slash pads and kiddie pools on a warm day! The Lorette one opened last year and is awesome for us country folk to go to, rather then driving all the way to the city!

  9. Spend time at Assiniboine Park either at the playground, feeding the ducks, playing catch or just riding your bikes.

  10. grow your own veggies and make it a family project to plant and care for the garden!!
