If you’ve got a lot of items you want to get rid of, this is the perfect time to do it! Great time to declutter and move things along.
If the items you’ve got are still in good condition there are a lot of local charities that will pick them up. There’s also the giveaway weekend coming up on May 9th and 10th – you can put items that are still usable out to find them a new home.
If you have items that aren’t in good condition and you can’t put them out for regular pickup, now’s the time to get rid of those too! The city will pick up most items for $5 a piece – but on May 1st that is going up to $10 a piece so if you have a lot to get rid of now’s the time. For that price the city will pick up things like old couches or mattresses, certain appliances that don’t work anymore etc. Quick and easy way to get rid of them, cheap – and the $5 just gets added on to your water bill. You have to call 311 to arrange for pickup.
If you have items with ozone depleting substances like old fridges, freezers and air conditioners the city will pick those up for $20 – that price isn’t changing.
The city has a whole list of what they will and won’t accept – we’ve used this before to get rid of items and it’s super convenient. If you have items that you have no clue what to do with, the city even has a what goes where? search bar – type it in and it’ll tell you exactly what to do with it.
If you have a fridge that’s still in working condition that you want to get rid of it, Hydro will pick it up and credit you $50 – there’s a lot of requirements for this one so check out their site and look through it carefully.
