This is always a big question – what do you with car seats when you no longer need them, or if they’re expired? Here’s another way to get rid of them, did you know you can drop them off at MPI claim centres? They will take them off your hands and dispose of them properly. I had never heard of this, but Melanie Stuve just dropped off several car seats and passed along the tip.
There are claim centres all over Winnipeg, and all around the province – you can find the full list on their site at the bottom right corner.
If you have a good tip you want to share like this one, feel free to email me! 🙂 And check out more posts on my Winnipeg Mom Blog!
This is a great tip! I didn’t know you could take them back to MPI and felt horrible when I put an expired one in the garbage a few years ago. Never again!
What do they do with them? Are they able to take them apart and recycle any parts of them?
That’s good to know! I’ve thrown a few away in the past — just cut them up so they were not usable, and wrote “EXPIRED” in big black sharpie. But this is a much, much better solution!!! I’m also curious what they do with the parts, if any of it is recyclable.
Right away I am going to do my breakfast, once having my breakfast coming over again to
read other news.
MPI will take them…..guess what they do with them…..in the GARBAGE as well.
I called MPI and they throw them in the trash. There is not a place in Winnipeg that recycles expired car seats.
They do dispose of them properly like i said, like cutting the straps etc. But no, there has never been any recycling program for them.
