When Holiday Inn contacted me about writing a piece about travel in the prairies – of course I said yes! This is one of my favourite topics, we love to travel and stay in Canada and close to home. Big fan of staycations too!! So, just a warning that this is a sponsored post, but as usual it’s my ideas and my take on travelling in the prairies. We’ve done so many road trips with the kiddo in the last few years that we’ve checked out a lot of great destinations too!
The was a new study=commissioned by InterContinental Hotels Group – while one in four (25.64%) western Canadians have changed their leisure travel plans due to tighter personal finances nearly three-quarters of western Canadians plan to travel at least once for leisure next year. Not only that, 65 % of western Canadians travelled at least once for leisure in 2015; significantly higher than the national average of 31 %.
What’s more, nearly three-quarters have budget at the top of their list of travel considerations followed by location (65%) hotel amenities (41%) and saving time (41%).
What are your travel plans and what are your travel considerations? If you’re looking to not go too far – keep costs down with shorter drive too, or a quick flight if you find a great deal!
- Head to Regina and be a tourist!! There are 3 great Holiday Inn choices there and there’s actually a lot of fun stuff to check out. It’s about a 6 hour drive, but it’s a whole new world! Try out new restaurants, new museums and family outings. Relax, take it easy and spend some time with the family. I find getting away, no matter how far is great for recharging the batteries and really letting go! If you want to drive further or fly, check out Calgary and Edmonton – 2 of my favourite cities. You can drive there in a day, and there are so many different places to check out!
- Become a tourist in your own city, or just take a staycation – also great for big family get togethers over the holidays. There are 4 choices for Holiday Inns in Winnipeg!
- If you want to have a downtown adventure check out the Holiday Inn on Colony street. Take in a Jets game, go to the Art Gallery, hang out in the Exchange district. Sleep in, relax and be in walking distance of so many fun restaurants and shopping destinations!
- For a family staycation check out the Holiday Inn at Polo Park – there’s a steam room, hot tub and a pool with a Rainforest Splashpad. You’re still close to downtown and the airport – but can also get some shopping in at Polo Park. Lots of great family friendly restaurants and outings in the area too! Get some friends and family to get some rooms too and turn it into a big party! Stress free and everyone has a great time!
Kids eat free too – another great added bonus! Sometimes in winter you just need to shake things up – and a retreat at a pool like that is always a good choice! 🙂
When you’re travelling in the Prairies, there are a lot of great choices for Holiday Inns – always nice to pick a hotel you know you’ll be happy with and get great service and amentities. Whether you’re travelling for business, with family or a little getaway check out IHG.com for lots of great choices and inspiration!
The Holiday Inn Express in Downtown Regina is Horrible! I was there a year ago and it was literally falling apart, ceiling tiles falling down, buckets everywhere to catch leaking pipes in the ceilings and the rooms were dirty, we tried three rooms and said forget that and went to the Ramada. It was bad.
The Holiday Inn’s in Winnipeg are good 🙂 And I love that kids eat free, saves a TON of money!! The portage one is awesome with the kids rooms, pool and play structure area.
