If you’re looking for something different to eat, and would like to try to make meat pies but it seems like a lot of work – these are for you! Super quick and simple, and anyone can make these! We used to at these as kids all the time, it makes a perfect after school snack. Or reheat them with soup or a salad for a quick lunch or dinner.
They’re not fancy, but they’re pretty yummy! These are perfect to stock up for beforehand, look for sales on meat and cheese and bread – freeze them all until you’re ready to go! One recipe makes about 20-24 meat pies. They’re small, and most people eat a few at once.
Here’s the recipe:
- – 1 pound ground beef
- – 1 can mushroom soup
- – 1/2 lb shredded cheddar cheese
- – 1/2 to 3/4 cup onion, diced up
- – 1 cup bread crumbs
- – 1 egg
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- salt and pepper to taste.
You also need several loaves of bread. Cut the crusts off about 24 slices of bread – you can toast those and crush them for bread crumbs if you want. Butter each slice of bread, and then place it butter side down in a muffin tin.
Mix up all the above ingredients and then scoop in a few tablespoons into your bread cup – cook at 350 F for about 35 minutes. You can also sprinkle extra cheese on top if you like more cheese.
And that’s it!
You can freeze them all – then reheat in the microwave or the oven.
Great for kids school lunches too.
If you’ve got teens with big appetites these are great to have around! And best part is, they’re so simple you can whip them up anytime. No need to make dough, chill etc. etc. Get the kids to help out prepping the bread and get an assembly line going – I usually make several recipes at once since we go through them quickly.
