I have a really bad habit – I get a craving for something and I dwell on it – and then usually I make my husband drive across the city to pick it up. Or, we settle and have something closer by, but it’s not want we wanted, or more expensive etc.
A great new company has opened up in Winnipeg that will solve this – Skipthedishes! You can order from a bunch of restaurants in Winnipeg and they will deliver it for a fee from $1 to $6.
I think this is a great idea for an at home date night or special occasion – you can get great quality delivery and not have to pay a sitter! 🙂 I know for us on a few anniversaries etc. we just couldn’t get a sitter, would be fun to order from a good restaurant. And best part – no one has to cook or clean up! 🙂 We also sometimes do special celebrations with my grandma who is older and doesn’ t like to go out as much anymore, we usually just order whatever is close by – boring! Now we can actually pick what we’d all want to eat, instead of just by proximity. Another great idea for this is to order a meal for a busy mom or dad – neat surprise and the list of restaurants is so long, you can probably find one of their favorites. Great idea for a bday gift, girls night in – or just for when you don’t feel like cooking!
The site is easy to use – pop in your postal code and it gives you a list of what’s available – if you’re looking at an off time there won’t be anything on your list – so look up what’s available at other times. That will give you a list, including what times you can get it, and how much the fee is. Super simple to use and in Winnipeg in the winter weather, it’s a great option for delivery 🙂 Has anyone tried it out yet? What did you think? This sounds exactly like Mobile Maitre’D – I haven’t used Skip the Dishes but we have used Mobile Maitre D several times in the past and it was fantastic. Esp in the winter, $6 delivery is much cheaper than the cost of warming up your car, driving across the city in the freezing cold, and driving home again!
This multi-restaurant delivery service is a fantastic idea, give it a try everyone!
exciting… so many more choices than Mobile Maitre’D. Deadfish Cafe = yum. I wonder how many more they’ll add?? I’ll be skipping my dishes with this cold weather coming in lol

Skip The Dishes is awesome! I love having the ability to order different kinds of foods, rather than the same old stand-by pizza that we normally go for. With 2 young kids, my husband and I prefer staying home and ordering in most of the time rather than going out. Thanks for the great info, Nadine!
