Finally, the winter is coming to an end. It’s time to open up your windows and let that beautiful spring air into your home. Many people like to say goodbye to winter with a deep, spring clean.
Everyone has their own cleaning methods, but there are some parts of the home we often overlook. Consider paying some attention to the following areas before you begin your spring-cleaning this year.
The Windows
Cleaning windows can be a tedious chore, but once it’s complete you’ll be so glad to have all of that natural sunlight shining through freshly washed windows. Skip the squeegee and use a microfiber cloth. They’re extremely absorbent, washable, and leave the glass streak-free.
It’s best if you divide the task up and do it room by room. When you’re cleaning, wipe one side of the window vertically and the other horizontally. If any streaks do form, you’ll have a better idea of whether they’re on the inside or the outside.
You may notice problems with your windows while you’re cleaning and might want to consider contacting a Mississauga window replacement and manufacturer. The right company will offer a variety of options and a commitment to providing high-quality installation services. Some windows develop issues that just can’t be fixed with cleaning alone, such as when condensation occurs between window panes. If a deep clean isn’t going to help them, it might be time to get a new set of windows.
The Cabinets
Every year it’s a great idea to empty all the cabinets — in the kitchen, the bathroom, and anywhere else with shelving. By emptying them all out entirely you’ll probably discover items that you haven’t used in ages, and it might be time to consider donating them to charity.
Once they’re all cleared out, you can give them a big, deep scrub. Over time dust collects, especially in those far-away cabinet corners that are easy to forget.
The kitchen cabinets get particularly dirty because of all the cooking that takes place. There might be a lot of buildup from grease, oil, and fumes that will require a little bit of arm work. Always remember to use a cleaning fluid that is safe for wood if your cabinets are made of real wood. Otherwise, you can use a 50/50 mixture of warm water and vinegar. Get out a soft cloth and start scrubbing!
Behind the Fridge
An often forgotten corner of the house is behind the fridge. You’d be shocked at the amount of dust and dirt that builds up back there. Cleaning behind the fridge takes some time, so give yourself a couple of hours to complete the job. Take out frozen foods and items such as milk and place them in a cooler with ice. Turn the fridge off, and carefully move it away from the wall.
Get out your vacuum and gently maneuver it around the coils at the back of the fridge and the surrounding area (prepare yourself because the floor might be covered with layers of dust).
Wipe the surface area of the fridge and walls with warm water and vinegar, and once the area is completely dry you can plug the fridge back in.
Don’t forget the windows and dark corners of your home this spring — they also deserve some tender loving care (and cleaning)!
