If you like to eat a lot of salads or just want quick results from gardening, a salad bowl is a great place to start.
It can be in a window sill, on a deck, patio, table outside etc. These are a great idea to put together as gifts too. You can do it with herbs also or just do a mix of both.
All you need is a bowl that has drainage – if you don’t have old gardening pot left, you can just use any type of bowl and either drill or nail a few holes through it. You then just need to fill it with soil and then decide if you want to seed it if you have time to wait, or buy lettuce plants that are almost ready to eat. I’ve done both so we can spread it out over the whole summer. Once you eat most of it and it’s not regrowing well, add more seeds and a little bit more soil and you can just start right over.
I’ve been doing this for many years and most varieties work very well like that. They even sell seed mixes made for salad bowls.
Super cheap and easy option for the summer that anyone can grow. Just go outside and pick what you need for sandwiches and salads.
