Provincial Parks Cabin and Yurt rentals for 2013

20 Jan

Last year the opening day for rentals was early February…I had marked it down so I wouldn’t forget this year, since it’s not really the time you’re thinking of camping. They sent out an email and have changed the date now, opening day for rental bookings will be March 4th at 7am.

We rented a cabin at Camp Morton last year, right outside of Gimli. The cabin was great, 2 bedrooms – one with a double bed and the other with 2 singles. You have a bathroom (no shower, but there are some in the campground), a nice big kitchen with newer fridge and stove, a big eating area with table that sat either 6 or 8, and a living room area with a futon, coffee table etc.  The area was beautiful, lots of areas for the kids to play, gardens to see, and literally a minute or two from the beach. There are yurts there too which looked nice, and are a bit cheaper. The province also rents out cabins at Hecla.

The 6 person cabins at Camp Morton (which is what we had) are $78.44 a night, 4 person cabin is $71.97. Price are even lower in Hecla, $65.18 for a premium 6 person, $50.64 for regular 6 person, $42.53 for 4 person, and $34.41 for 2 people.

Yurts at all locations are $51.52.

Super cheap for what you’re getting – I was pleasantly surprised at how nice and clean the cabins were. Set up really well, nice huge deck and worked really well for our family. From their description on the site I was expecting something pretty dumpy (especially with the low price) but it was all pretty new and well taken care of. The furniture was actually really nice – loved the dining room table.

Plus you’re just a few minutes out of Gimli – and there are tons of great festivals and events happening there all summer long.

Check out the Parks Reservation Site for all the info – there are rules for some for 7 day rentals etc. so if you’re planning on booking read through it early – you can also see maps of the campground and choose a cabin in an area you like better etc.

Has anyone else rented from them before? What did you think of the cabins?
