If you’re looking for a quick and healthy option for snacks, trail mixes are a great choice!! We needed a nut free version for school, so we’ve been making our own for a while now.

Easy to do, cheap, and you know exactly what is in it – and what’s not!

I put together a new one today, it was a full freezer size Ziploc bag. I bought all the ingredients but one at Bulk Barn and spent $7.45 – after using a $3 off coupon. The craisins come from a gigantic bag we bought at Costco and have used it several time for this and other snacks – guessing used less than $1 worth from that. So, less than $10 for a huge bag of snacks that your kids or you can take anywhere.

We did a pretty even mix of:

  • Greek Yogourt baking chips
  • Craisins
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Banana chips
  • Pretzels

That’s it! Simple snack, add it whatever you think your kids would like. Keeps for a long time in the Ziploc bag – but we always end up going through it pretty quickly. It’s nice to be able to adjust the ratios yourself too.

What do you put into your trail mix? What do you think would be a good add on for ours?
