Spring Break in Manitoba is about to begin! Whether you get to stay home with your kids or not, they have to go somewhere and do something, so it can be pretty stressful for parents.
We have been planning ours out for a while, but instead of doing the typical activities we decided to start marking down places we want to check out during spring break on our white board. It’s an easy way to get stuff everyone wants to do – and you can keep the costs down this way too.
If you only have evenings to do stuff, or mornings or whatever, you can fix your list to match that – or find activities for the kids to do with grandparents or whover they are spending their spring break with.
Having a list ready to go makes it pretty simple too – if you only have a bit of time you can just pick something short.
Ours is pretty varied – the ones we want to do for sure is checking out that big coin at the Mint, check out some events at Jacob’s Trading, play some laser tag – and if it’s nice enough out, we want to go try a bunch of ice cream shops – Teeyah’s, Chaeban, Sargent Sundaes and BDI!
The activities don’t have to be super expensive either – a lot of the ones on our list are pretty simple and cheap. Lots are just areas we don’t get to that often. And getting the kids involved and getting their suggestions makes it fun for everyone. Can even start planning for summer that way too – anytime you or the kids see or hear of a new place you want to check out mark it down for when you have the time for it. And just because it’s on there, doesn’t mean you have to do it during spring break – this list can be rolled over for the next weekend or holiday!
Some of my best tips are pick simple enough activities and keep your budget in mind. Pack snacks or a meal if you want to cut costs – especially if you’re heading to an event out of town. Once you pick your places, check their hours and keep those in mind, so that you don’t get there and they’re closed. Check their social media too, just in case. Also good to check social media for special events or deals too.
At this time of the year too, if you’re doing anything outside, pack a change of clothes for everyone – especially if you are doing more later in the day!
Spring Break doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive either – get some new books at the library and have a reading day – you can even get video games there! Go to Sugar Beach and get some crazy snacks and have a movie night! Go check out new parks and get the kids outside – lots of fun places to explore in Winnipeg!
And remember that everything will be crazy busy during spring break – so pack yourself a little extra patience too! 😉
