My Juno 2014 Experience

1 Apr

So the JUNO’s have come and gone, and I’m still standing! Phew! There were lots of activities going on for the Juno’s here in Winnipeg. How many activities did you & your family participate in? There was: The Junofest, The Juno Fan Fare, Juno Cup, Juno Broadcast, and lots of other mini Juno activities going on, like the Junior Juno’s at the Children’s museum and the Juno Gala Dinner. It’s been fun, but I only did 2 events myself, mostly because I got myself on a volunteer crew. So I was able to volunteer & work the JUNO Cup, as well as Volunteer through the Juno Broadcast!

Let’s start off with my Juno Cup experience.
This was a pretty crazy activity happening at the MTS iceplex! All proceeds of the event were going to various of charities which I thought was just awesome! Lots of people were in attendance, though it was a little difficult to distinguish Juno Cup attendee’s to Ringette Championship attendee’s (they were happening at the same time) everyone seemed to have a great time. I was able to catch some of the game between the Rockers and the NHL Greats after my volunteer shift was over, unfortunately I was unable to catch some pictures of the great event. One of the things you couldn’t do when volunteering was take pictures, so I left my camera/phone in the vehicle during my shift 🙂 But hey! That’s ok! The memories is what makes things just that much more special. When I walked into the arena, it was a high energy atmosphere. Everyone Old and Young cheering their hearts out for both sides! The fun activities they had organized to keep everyone entertained was great! I ended up leaving right after the sing off between Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy & NHL Greats Troy Crowder – and let me tell you, they were both fantastic, but Jim pulled the most applause giving The Rockers an extra 2 points 🙂 In the end the NHL Great’s won, but we’ll see what happens next year. I’m rooting for the rockers!
Juno’s Broadcast – What a whirl wind! I was doing my volunteer shift, going around and asking the questions that I needed to do for my job (Thank you to those who had patience to answer 5 quick questions! 8 if you were from out of town). But after my shift ended, let me tell you – I put away Kara the Volunteer and switched into Kara the Juno Party mode 😉 I pulled out my floor ticket and went down to enjoy the show! It was alot of standing, but I can’t complain at all! I was so close to the performers stage, and the path where the celebrities walk to get their Juno award. The perfect place! Since I wasn’t volunteering, I was able to snap a few pictures here and there, and I’ll share some of the clear ones that I have 🙂 I just loved the energy of everyone in the arena, and surprised at how many rules there were – Did you know we had to wait for commercial breaks to come and go from the arena?! Pretty cool if you think about it. I didn’t know how things worked during live broadcasting. I had two favorite acts that I seen (though they were ALL amazing) – the first one was Walk Off The Earth, the second was the finale – when Bachman–Turner Overdrive came out and performed “ Taking Care of Business” with The Sheepdogs!
A couple moments I was taken back by at the JUNO’s:  There was a lady who just got THAT drunk and could no longer stand up while watching the JUNO’s on the floor- Some guy (boyfriend? husband? pissed off Juno go-er?) brought her to security, and she couldn’t stand – if this was you, I’m sorry – I’ll forever remember you as the lady with no class. When you dress all fancy, and come to a higher-end event, I expect people to be able to stand on their feet by the end of the night. It’s just a classier thing to do. Have a drink or two, but don’t over do it. The people in attendance represent our beautiful province!
The second was when everyone boo’d the Bieber! Just because you don’t like what’s been going on, doesn’t mean you got the right to boo him. Imagine instead: Complete silence! What would that say? It would mean you’ve been taught “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all”. I believe it would have more of an impact – I applauded for the poor guy! He is after all Canadian, and human – We aren’t perfect – We just don’t have the paparazzi following our every move and reporters that dig for dirt on every little thing we do. He won – if you want to change the winner of the JUNO FAN CHOICE award, do your part and fight the Bieber fans and out vote him 🙂 Till Next year Folks!

If you have the chance, volunteer for your community, for various shows and organizations! It’s very rewarding and makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside knowing you’re helping out.
