Monster Jam and Kids Help Phone have teamed up for a great program to help stop bullying – encouraging kids who have been bullied to ask for help and helping those who witness it on how to step in and stop it.
Bullying is everywhere these days…school, online, pretty much anywhere kids go. Kids Help Phone has been helping kids since 1989 to talk through their problems and help find solutions or just listen. The statistics on bullying are shocking, did you know:
– 1 in 5 middle school students report avoiding restrooms at school due to fear of being bullied. (Smokowski & Kopasz, 2005)
– 87% of students in grades 8 to 10 reported witnessing school bullying in the past year. (Trach et al., 2010)
– Bystanders can stop bullying: Studies have shown that bullying stops within 10 seconds more than half of the time when a bystander intervenes. (Ahmed, 2008)
Maple Leaf Monster Jam Tour is making a donation to Kids Help Phone and also donating 10,000 tickets to them! There’s also going to be anti-bullying events across Canada so stay tuned for info for the Winnipeg one!
