MEC BikeFest at the Forks!

16 May

Love how many great things are coming up in Winnipeg to do for free with the family! You know I love posting these up, so if you know of an event feel free to email me and spread the word 🙂

Saturday June 15th head on down to the Forks for the 5th annual Mountain Equipment Co-op BikeFest! It’s from noon to 5pm, and all of the events are free!

There’s a lot going on, here’s the complete list:

Tune-Ups & Test Rides: Get your bike in tip top shape with a free basic tune-up (first come, first served). You can also test ride and try out MEC bikes.

FYOB (Fix Your Own Bike!): Take advantage of the stands and tools available, roll up your sleeves, and fix your own bike with the assistance of professional bike mechanics.

Care & Repair Clinics: Local community bike shops will offer clinics, with topics including fixing flats, chain maintenance, adjusting brakes, and more. The bike fitting clinic will ensure your bike fits you perfectly.

**New this year – Health Clinic: Not only can you get your bike tuned-up at BikeFest, but you can also learn about tuning up your body. The Center for Natural Medicine will provide a clinic on diet and nutrition to help guide you into peak cycling form.

Bike Decorating: Art City will provide decorating stations for kids ages 3+, and also the young at heart, who’d like to add some bling to their bike.

Obstacle Course: Kids can try their two-wheeling skills at the bicycle obstacle course, run by MEC Kids of Mud.

MEC Photo Booth & Photo Contest: Get your picture taken with your bike, and be entered to win great prizes in several categories.

Group Rides: Bring your mountain bike and take part in one or both of the afternoon group rides – Whittier Park (15-20km) and City Cruise (15-20km).

Gear Swap: The ever-popular gear swap is back, where you can buy, sell or trade used bikes, cycling clothes or bike accessories. Interested sellers should email [email protected].

Shopping: Visit the MEC Marketplace to purchase cycling products and accessories, and other outdoor items. Natural Cycle, Bikes and Beyond and Alter Ego will also have mini-stores onsite.

Trials Demos: Peg City Trials will be on hand to demonstrate thrilling trials by local riders. These extreme enthusiasts make a sport out of riding over, around, and through obstacles.

Live Music: Enjoy concerts on the main stage underneath the canopy, provided by the Park Theatre, with performances by:
