If your monthly bills are adding up and you want to try to get them lower and save some money every month, here are some easy ways to do so. By just spending a few minutes doing this, you can carry these savings over months or years!
- Check with your local power and water companies to see what kind of programs and rebates they offer and what you’d qualify for. Change out a few things with the Power Smart Kit that you get for free and save every month. There’s always special rebates on, right now there’s $15 credit for smart thermostats, up to $150 for energy efficient washer and dryer and more! There’s often rebates for low flow toilets etc. too. Those things add up quickly and will keep your bill lower in the long run too!
- Program your thermostat carefully – why heat or cool so much when no one is home? That can be a big savings every month, with just a few minutes of programming. And when things change with your scheduele, change the times to keep up.
- Call your cellphone, internet, tv and home phone providers and see if they are running any deals. Speak to customer loyalty departments if they have one too. If they can offer you a deal, try to stretch it out to 3, 6 or 12 months. And mark that date on the calendar. When it’s over, call back and check for another one. If they won’t budge, check other local competing companies to see if they’d give you a better deal. Also check with big box stores for better deals on cell phones etc. The savings on those can be huge!
- If you find you aren’t watching tv much anymore and are tired of paying for cable….look into just having Netflix or other programs. Big savings there every month! Especially if you won’t be using it in the summer.
- If insurance costs are getting out of hand, phone and see if there’s a better deal, or even see what over providers can offer you. Maybe you have too much coverage, or there’s a better plan for you. Can work for home, car, pet, medical etc.
- Check your subscriptions – do you have magazine subscriptions, the newspaper, gym memberships, music or tv accounts, or anything like that coming out of your bank monthly or on your credit card? If you aren’t using them a lot, you can either cancel them or see if they will give you a better deal.
Biggest thing is to just sit down with all your monthly bills and brainstorm. Doesn’t cost anything to phone them up and ask for a better deal and be willing to drop some parts of the service too. Those kinds of savings really add up!
If your credit card interest is killing you, contact your provider and ask for a low-interest no frills credit card. It can reduce interest by half!
