Kid Friendly Fairmont Winnipeg – #Fairmontcookswithkids

14 Jul

We were invited to a kids baking afternoon at the Fairmont Winnipeg – sounded fun, but wasn’t too sure how kid friendly the hotel was. And how a fancy hotel would deal with a whole bunch of rowdy kids? 😉

They invited several Winnipeg bloggers and their children, and some employees brought their kids in too so it was quite a big group of small children. They had a great little set up for the kids, who made cookies, decorated and iced them. It was all super cute, the kids wearing adorable Fairmont Chef in training aprons.

They had the best selection of toppings for cookies I’ve ever seen, there were actually some I had never even heard of before – some looked exactly like rocks! The whole afternoon was a lot of fun and super informative for the kids, baking with a chef  is such a treat! My daughter was so proud of her cookies, and to my surprise they were actually delicious! Of course they were packaged up beautifully to take home!

The chefs were great with the kids and made the afternoon a blast! It was neat to see the inner workings of the kitchen and to learn more about all aspects of the hotel. Always good for kids to see how much work goes into their meals at a restaurant, and how many people are needed to pull it all off.

Here are some of the great kid friendly facts I learned about the hotel…

– they do offer a kids menu, but when you’re there for meals with your kid, feel free to let them ask for what they’re hungry for! My daughter loves to order like that, a little of this and a little of that – the kitchen can whip up all kinds of special meals for the kids.

– They have a ton of gluten free options, and can work with any kind of allergies or concerns so just let them know in advance

– Ask if your kid can check out the kitchen – how fun is that!! The chefs often take kids to the kitchen to help make a dessert etc.  I had no idea!! I know my daughter is always full of questions at restaurants, and wants to know more about the food. Love that they do this for the kids!

– When you check into the hotel, ask what kind of goodies and fun stuff they can have ready for your kids. They do have kids sized Fairmont robes available and other things like that for the little ones, so just make sure to let them know in advance so they can get them ready.

One of the questions I was asked a lot about the hotel was is there a pool, is it kidfriendly etc.? Let me tell you, is there ever a pool!!!

DSC_0076  This amazing pool is a salt water pool – so super kid friendly!! There’s a hot tub too, and a gym right next door.

The views from the pool room were amazing, you can see all of downtown, the Esplanade bridge, the new museum – you can almost see my house even in St. Boniface!! You can get these same views from the gym room, would make working out a lot more fun!!

Here’s another thing I learned on my tour of the pool area – you don’t need to be a registered guest to use the pool. Anyone can use the pool and hot tub for $10 for the day!! The pool is open til 10 or 11pm too and there is really nice seating in the room too. I’m thinking this would be an amazing way to end a date night, a special treat in the winter, or just to go for a swim and check out the views. How fun would be it be to go out for a yummy dinner and then go for a swim or sit in the hot tub – or even make a day of it!  Perfect for a girls night out too!

The hotel had a great vibe, not stuffy or too fancy – a very approachable environment. A perfect spot for visiting families, but also if you’re looking for a neat staycation…why not be a tourist in Winnipeg, explore downtown and the exchange district and get to swim in that amazing pool!!

Who wouldn’t want to wake up to this view?  🙂

  1. Good to know, especially the saltwater pool, my mom can’t handle chlorine so I’ll pass this info on to her. It’s good to know how kid-friendly the Fairmont is, I’ll have to make a mental note to check them out for a little staycation sometime!

    • Glad to hear it! I think the saltwater is such a great idea too, especially those wanting to bring the super little ones in. And a perfect option for your mom – could be a fun family outing for sure.

  2. Thank you for posting about this!
I think we’ll be looking into using their pool for the small fee during the winter time, and the Gluten-Free option is so important for my family! It’s great to know there is somewhere that can accomodate for them!!
