How to Save Money at the Red River Ex in Winnipeg 2019!

12 Jun

If you’re heading to the Red River Ex, figuring out a few ways ahead of time to save money is a great idea!

The Ex is in Winnipeg from June 14th to 23rd – and there are so many ways to cut costs while you’re there, but still enjoy a really fun day out!

You can buy tickets in advance at lots of locations – you can get just the gate entry, all you can ride passes etc – figure out what works for you and your family and buy in advance.

Plan to go on specific days or specific times to get certain deals:

  • Sunday, June 16: FREE admission (with a donation to the Red River Exhibition Foundation) from 11 a.m. to Noon ONLY.  A FREE pancake & sausage breakfast will be served from 11 a.m. to Noon ONLY.  (while supplies last)
  • Monday, June 17: Heroes’ Day – FREE gate admission all day for police, paramedics, firefighters and military with proof of I.D.
  • Wednesday, June 19: Seniors’ Day – $10 gate admission for Seniors’ 60+ only when you present your I.D. at the ticket booths.  Seniors receive one free ride on both the Merry-Go-Round and the Giant Ferris Wheel. Free coffee and donuts will be served during the CJNU Senior Star competition beginning at 4 pm, while supplies last.
  • Sunday, June 23: Family Day – FREE admission (with a donation to the Red River Exhibition Foundation) from 11 a.m. to Noon ONLY.  A FREE pancake & sausage breakfast will be served from 11 a.m. to Noon am ONLY.  (while supplies last) Kids under 10 years old can purchase a wristband* at the Park to ride all they want on Sunday, June 23 ONLY for just $18 includes GST. *Good for Kiddieland rides ONLY.

While you’re there – make sure to check out all of the free shows and exhibits happening. A lot of them are amazing and there’s stuff for the whole family to see and do. It’s all included with your gate admission, so plan time for those ones too. You can pick up event guides there or early at Giant Tiger, Sobeys or Safeway and preplan a bit. Check out the attractions section – it’s a pretty great variety!

A huge money saver is bringing in your own food and drinks – always fun to get a special treat while you’re there – but as a family bringing stuff in saves a lot and good for allergies, certain diets etc.   There’s an area with picnic tables, and to set up blankets. Good idea to take some breaks too.

If you have young kids and they want souvenirs or toys – let them play the games in the kids area. You win a prize and it’s a lot more fun for them to earn one 🙂  Ends up being a lot cheaper too, and it’s a special memory for them.

Remember to check the weather and plan for that – comfy shoes, bug spray, sunscreen, a wet cloth, change of clothes depending on the ages. Anything to keep you there longer and having fun and getting more for what you already spent is great!
