Did everyone end up with a lot of gift cards after the holidays? Here’s a few tips on getting your best value out of them.
Of course look for sales – no brainer! 🙂 If the card is for a restaurant, check to see if they have a kids eat free night (if you have kids) or if they have a coupon for a free appetizer or dessert. Most restaurants do now when you sign up for their newsletter online. Check out their site, do they maybe have a night where your fave is cheaper (pasta night etc.).
If it’s for a department or clothing store look for discount coupons! Right now Zellers has one for 50% off one item – extends the gift card a lot! Old Navy usually has coupons every week too online – look up the store online but on facebook too to see if there’s anything that would work for you. Like Mark’s having those bonus cards on the flyers too – takes your gift card even further. Also great if you have a group buying deal coupon for it – can combine since a gift card is like cash!
And if it ends up that you got some gift cards you know you will never use, check out cardswap – you can buy or sell gift cards on there.
What are your best tips for getting the most out of your gift cards?
I had recently won a gift certificate to a kiosk located in St Vital mall. When I went to redeem it I was told I was not allowed to use it on sale items and the kiosk only carried 1 or 2 items in the price range of the gift certificate. Kinda bummed.
Wish there was a way to make the most of that gift certificate.
