Flip Flop and Fly!

29 May

Imagine having to spend all summer wearing whatever footwear you wore all winter… For most of us when the snow melts we change from winter boots  to our runners, then to flip flops and all kinds of sandals and assorted summer footwear. Then think back to a nice +30 day and you’re still stuck in those winter boots….

Shel Zolkewich noticed this, and she is now on a mission to collect all types of sandals, flip flops and summer footwear for those who don’t have any. These are being donated to Siloam Mission and her goal is to collect as many as possible! You can drop them off at Siloam Mission, 300 Princess Street in  Winnipeg (204) 956-4344.  You can also contact Shel directly at [email protected]  or contact me with any questions or to set something up.

My first thought when I heard this is the $1 flip flop sale at Old Navy – it should be coming up soon, and it’s an easy way for people to donate a bunch at one time. I’ll be letting you know when I find out the date, or if anyone knows please contact me. For the price of a coffee several people could have some summer footwear…. If anyone has any good ideas on how to coordinate something, a company willing to donate a bunch etc. let me know 🙂  And thanks to Shel for coming up with this great idea!

  1. Great idea! Can you imagine the impact if everyone who shops at Old Navy bought a couple pairs & donated them? It’d be really great if Old Navy would let Siloam put a donation bin right in the store!

    • As my 7 year old says Carla, great minds think alike! 😉 I’m waiting to find out the date, and I will start bugging everyone at the mall to go on their breaks, after work etc. It could add up so quickly, especially since 2 old navy locations. And their flip flops are pretty well made for that price for sure, can last quite a while and pretty comfy. And the bin would be a great way to boost it too, most people just in shopping would pick up a few for sure at that price.
