If you’re looking for a fun, totally free activity this weekend check out Doors Open Winnipeg – it’s great because it’s not only downtown either, there are buildings to tour in st. vital, st. boniface, north end etc. Check the website for all the buildings, and when the tours are happening there.
We haven’t done this one yet – but we did tour St. Boniface a few years ago and it was really interesting. So many things you never realize, and I love hearing stories about how crazy things got as our city was booming – there’s some great dramatic stories! 🙂 Good time to head to a new area, learn some history about our city, tour some neat buildings – maybe even try out some local businesses and restaurants while you’re out!
Anyone going for some tours? Which buildings have you toured in the past? Any tips or recommendations for those of us who haven’t gone yet?
Thanks so much for posting this…I didn’t know it was this weekend already!
In the past I have gone to several buildings…Bank of Montreal downtown was one of my favourites, they let you go down and see the vault! The church on Donald and Graham was beautiful.
My advice for others going out would be make sure you have good walking shoes on (most of the buildings are in clusteres that you can walk to within a few blocks.
This year I’m looking forward to seeing The Avenue on Portage and the Train Station on Main.
This is a great activity for kids, so many interesting things to see in our own city!
