Decorating for the holidays can be a daunting task, especially if you are starting from scratch. It can be very expensive, and if you need to get a little bit of everything it can really add up quickly. Also very helpful if you are entertaining more and don’t have everything you need.
Whether you have just moved out on your own, just started decorating for a certain holiday or to add on to what you already have, these are two of my best tips.
For this post I will focus on Christmas because that’s what’s out right now. But all of this can apply to every holiday throughout the year.
First, Dollar Tree is great for all kinds of stuff. Almost everything in the store is $1.25. You can find all kinds of decorations, but also things like plates, tablecloths, things to wrap up gifts, crafts to make, gift ideas, crafts and much more. Any Dollar store have this kind of items, but a Dollar Tree it’s a lot easier to keep the price down at the end. Just have to go early to get the good items, you can’t wait until the month of the event, try a month or two before. Find that they restock pretty often and they do get a really big variety of items, so it might take a few trips to get everything you need.
This is also a great place if you want to make your own Christmas gifts, they have everything you need to do wreaths, very personalized little gifts, and all kinds of neat crafts. A lot of tiktok videos have tutorials on how to make all kinds of really cool gifts.
Next place is your favorite thrift store. We really like the Kildonan MCC. They have a big room that is turned into the Christmas room right now, and it is full of decorations and constantly being replenished. You can find all kinds of great decorations for very affordable prices, and pretty much anything else you can imagine for the holidays. They do a lot of seasonal stuff throughout the year, again worth checking for any holiday. If you’re having a lot of guests over and you don’t have a big dish set, you can pick up a lot of extra pieces here for cheap, same with extra pots and pans you might need or serving trays. Thing you don’t have and you think you’ll only use once or twice, definitely worth grabbing there if you need it.
Also worth looking if you need bigger furniture for entertaining, lots of really cheap options. Perfect if you need some extra chairs, some tv tables etc.
Lots of brand new items, or very specific personalized type gift ideas too. If you are trying to keep your Christmas shopping budget down, take a look around the whole store too.
