Did you know that there are actually 5 different types of winter parking bans in Winnipeg? Always good to be aware of all the different ones – in case you’re out visiting, shopping or overnight at your own home.
1 – Residential Know Your Zone is probably the one you should most pay attention to. You can either look up your zone on the city’s site or call 311 to find out. Just need your address and you can check anywhere in case it’s not somewhere you go to often. If you park when you’re not supposed to, you’ll end up with a $150 ticket ($75 if paid early) and your car can be towed to another street too. When there’s too many cars parked when they plow it’s a big mess after so make sure to check now and be aware of your zone.
2 – Annual Snow Routes – no parking from 2-7am on these from Dec. 1st to March 1st. These ones have the big snow route signs.
3 – Declared Snow Routes – this one is for extra plowing when there’s a lot of snow.
4 – Snow Emergency. This one has to be decided by the mayor, and only for certain routes. Guessing most likely if we get a giant snowstorm.
5 – Temporary No Parking. These are for additional plowing, those street works signs will be up for this.
So, check the city’s site and know your zone to avoid all these types of fines and help to keep our roads clear! And make sure to let others know to check – those are some hefty fines!
