All you need is:

– 1 cup unsalted butter (not margarine)

– 1 cup brown sugar

– 2 cups chocolate chips

– package of saltine crackers

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper, butter – anything you prefer to keep it from sticking.

Melt the butter and brown sugar together on the stove on low heat, until the sugar is all dissolved and it bubbles up nicely. Takes about 5 minutes or so.

Preheat the oven to 350.

IMG_20151207_125605 Pour your butter and sugar mixture over the crackers – be careful, it’s super hot!

Cover them all with the mix, use a spatula to get the edges. Pop it in the oven for 8-10 minutes. It’ll bubble up a lot in the oven, so if you missed any spots it should fill them in too.

Take it out of the oven, be careful since it’s now like molten lava!!!

Let it cool for a few minutes and cover it with the chocolate chips – if you use mini chips it melts a lot easier. If you’re using regular chocolate chips and they don’t melt fast enough for you, pop it in the still warm oven for a minute. Use the spatula and spread the chocolate all over. You can also use holiday chips, or after crush up some candy canes on top. Using a bit of white chocolate after to put some lines looks really great too!

Let it sit for a while to cool – then pop it in the fridge to cool completely.

Now you’re ready to crack it!! Break it into a ton of pieces and it’s ready to eat!! You can keep it in a tin for a while – but doubt it’ll make it that long!

Super easy and buttery and yummy recipe you can be ready to eat in about 30 minutes or so! And super basic cheap ingredients! But delicious and always a crowd favourite!
