Chevy Stevens – Never Knowing – Review and Giveaway!

28 Jul

As most of you know I’m an avid reader – even ravenous! I often talk about eating books – if it’s good I go crazy!

I read Chevy Stevens first book Still Missing and was completely in awe – I couldn’t put it down. It was one of the best books I’ve ever read in my life. When I looked up Chevy Stevens I was surprised to find out she’s Canadian, she looks quite young and that was really her first book. The way she writes it’s like a dream, the way a book should be written. She’s not trying to impress you with fancy words or strange concepts – she has great characters, a great story and she really knows how to pull it all together.

Last week I started her new book Never Knowing.  I honestly didn’t expect much, a 2nd book, not too long after the first one. If you follow me on facebook you know I had an almost sleepless night! I just couldn’t put it down! People sometimes use that phrase loosely, I was up almost the entire night. I wanted to finish it, but knew I was too sleepy to really enjoy the ending so I kept it for the next afternoon. And I finished it pretty quickly, savouring it at the end, not wanting it to end.

I’m a bit torn of what to write about the actual story, it’s so good I don’t even want to tell you guys anything – except Just Read it!! 🙂 So here are the bare bones of it – It’s about a woman who was adopted and decides to try to find her birth parents. It’s not a lovey dovey story of a happy reunion. It’s a whirlwind of what can go wrong, and maybe when things are good in your life you should just leave them alone. What you find out might ruin, or end your life. It’s a true rollercoaster ride and one that you just don’t want to end.

I’ve been raving about this book and encouraging everyone I know to read it – I was so excited when I found out I had a copy to give away that I literally sat down and wrote this! And if you guys have some free time this weekend pick up either of her books, get an iced coffee and prepare for the most amazing read! I know that when you “review” a book you are probably supposed to give more info about the actual story but I really don’t want to. I know from reading it myself that knowing any more than what I wrote would have taken away from the story. It’s so well written and hits so many different emotions, I want to give you guys the chance to really feel that on your own.  I read a lot and am super picky with books – anyone who knows me knows that I’m not too forgiving on authors – and I honestly can’t say enough about Chevy Stevens, I really think I have a “author crush” or something like that. I want her to have a long career and write many, many books! This is a book that is so worth buying – you will love it, you will want to pass it to your friends to read because you will want to discuss it with them. I’ve been chatting on facebook with people about it and it’s so fun!

You can buy the book at any bookstore – I’m serious about it if you want a fun, relaxing weekend. Ok, maybe not so relaxing as you will get totally hooked! Maybe send the kids away with dad, grandparents etc. for the afternoon! And one super lucky person will be winning their own copy of Never Knowing!

Contest open to all Canadians – to enter comment with what kind of reader you are. Do you read in bed, in the bath, do you snack etc? Contest will end Tuesday August 2nd at noon. Good Luck to everyone, and if anyone wants to discuss the book message me on facebook – don’t give anything about the story away in the comments! 😉 To earn a 2nd entry “like” Chevy Stevens on facebook! Just comment here that you did so.

  1. I am a sporadic reader. I won’t pick up a book for ages then I’ll read a good one and read non-stop for a while. I like to read before bed or on holidays in my hammock. I’m dying to read this but I’m number 2 million on the wait list at the library. I’m thinking I definitely will have to purchase this one or you could just pick me to win! 😉

  2. I would love to win this book! I just re-commenced reading for pleasure about 4 books ago after having my two kids. For the longest time I found I would pick up a book and my “things to do” list or family issues eg. I have to cut my son’s toe nails tomorrow or work issues would pop into my head and I would never finish a paragraph never mind a page.

Although I only have time to read about two pages a day now – I’m able to concentrate and I’m feeling very fortunate that I’m etching out a little “me time” to read for pleasure. I love to read wherever I possibly can, but generally it is in bed right before I close my eyes – it is a special treat!

I “liked” Chevy Stevens on Facebook and I can’t wait to read some of her books and I’m hoping that my first book will be the one I won!

  3. im just like melanie, i havent read a book in months but really wish i can find one to interest me …. so i can start up again

  4. I am a rapid reader, I find a few good or not so good books at the library every thursday. My son will not fall asleep by himself so I read at nap time and bed time while I wait for him close his eyes. Gives me quite a bit of reading time every week 🙂

  5. I go through phases where I will read all of the time, then I won’t pick up a book for sometimes months… I’m on a reading kick right now, but just finished a book and haven’t found something new to read yet. I usually read in bed, often going staying up way too late when I’m enthralled in a good book!

  6. I get into a reading “kick”. I read three or 4 books in a couple weeks, then stop for a few months. I need another author to get into now that I read all of Jodi Picoult.

  7. I’ve been a bookmonster since I was a pre-teen! I go in spurts since having my son 5 years ago but I’ve been back into books for the last 2 years. I like to read before bed, when travelling, and outside, even while cooling off in my son’s pool..I once went through 3 books in about 10 days while sitting in the ocean on a Fijian beach (oh how I long to do that again). The last time I went through a book I couldn’t put down was when I read the Twilight series (even at my age I loved it) so I’d love to get my hands on this book that you couldn’t put down Nadine!

  8. I love to read!!! Sadly I don’t have enough time to do so, when I find a book I really get into I read it as fast as I can, then I’m disappointed that it’s over!

  9. As a mom I didn’t have a lot of time to read so I started a book club with a group of friends to “force” myself to do it more. It was one of the greatest ideas! Not only do I read more, but I also get a night out with girlfriends every month!!

  10. I usually read before bed but my favourite is to read in the car on long cartrips…no phones, no errands, no pressing housework….ahhhh

  11. I am a sporadic reader. Partially because when I do start a book I don’t want to put it down……..and other things don’t get done. I have been known to stay up most of the night reading in bed because I can’t put a book down

  12. I go through a book or two a week during the winter months as I bus to work. In the summer when I commute by bike, my reading drops dramatically. However, I can make time for a book that sounds like it is worth my while! And since I stopped collecting books (it was getting out of control), now I pass them along to friends once I’m done.

  13. Nadine, as we have discussed, you know I love to read, as like you do!!! We both are hooked on Chevy Stevens!! Great Canadian Author!! I read everywhere – bed, bath, outside with kids, while watching TV, road trips(long or short), at work – anytime that I can get lost in a story that takes me away, and gets me some “me time”. WOuld love to own her book, as it does take awhile at the library to get ahold of them. Trick I found, is to put your name on the waiting list as soon as you hear the author has a book coming out – always checking the author website as well as library website. Hope to win!! Also like Chevy Stevens on FB!!!

  14. I usually read before bed, or in bed. I also take the bus to work, so I do a lot of reading on the bus – almost 1hr and 1/2 a day!

  15. I like to read before bed, a way to relax and unwind with a good book after a hard day. Would love to read a new book!

  16. “Liked” Chevy. Haven’t read her books, but have written down the titles to check them out next time I’m at the library. I love reading too – anytime, anywhere!

  17. There’s nothing like reading on the deck under the patio umbrella and sipping on a cool concoction. In fact, that’s where I’m headed right now!

  18. I am an avid reader – I always have a book with me in case I get a few minutes to read a page or two. I read before I go to sleep every night. I have been like this since I learned to read. Nothing is better than a book.

  19. I’m a voracious reader… I love to read anything and everything; literally! My favourite place is in bed and I don’t snack, it’s too distracting! Please accept this as my entry. Thank you!

  20. I also LOVE to read but I don’t get much time to do it anymore but when I find a really good book I make the time 🙂 I’m on my way to “like” now!

  21. I like to read when it’s quiet, kiddo’s are in bed and I have time to myself.

I’d love to win this and have the opportunity to read a great book!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  22. I’m the type of reader that will find any extra moment to read a page or two. Would love to win as I haven’t had a great book to read in a while.

  23. I too am an avid reader. And I read almost anything, but lately it’s been steampunk, fantasy or horror. That doesn’t mean I don’t love a good mystery, because I do. This particular book sounds really good and how great that another Canadian author is now out there.
