I was contacted a few days ago by someone who wanted to remain anonymous but really wanted to spread this info with everyone.
She has the PC MasterCard and had been noticing account balance protection charges on her account. For years.
It was actually two separate fees every month as long as there was a balance on the card. The account balance protection which was a percentage based on the balance showing, and then a separate charge for taxes on that first charge.
She phoned them a few weeks ago to inquire what exactly she had been paying for all these years and was told that when she signed up for the credit card she had agreed to this. She was told that they either had it in writing or an audio recording of her agreeing to it. She insisted on seeing or hearing the proof and after a lot of arguing and back and forth they told her they would look into it and get back to her.
She never heard back from them.
Yesterday completely out of the blue, she was refunded $4,000 on her credit card!! No explanation or contact. She actually phoned them again to verify that this was actually the refund, and it was.
It’s a large amount, but it’s for many years of it, all at once.
So, make sure to check your credit cards for any fees like this. If there’s anything on your statement that you’re unsure of, contact them and ask. If you didn’t want something and you never signed up for it, you should not be paying for it every month.
It’s a great time right now, as anytime, to sit down with credit card bills or bank statements and really look them over.
Don’t be afraid to phone and ask for an explanation!
